In case you live under a rock and don’t know what ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here’ is, it’s a reality TV series which shows a group of celebrities living in a camp in the Australian jungles and competing amongst each other in various challenges. The decision of which celebrity is to be eliminated is in the hands of the viewers and their votes.
The winner receives a monetary award, which goes to their choice of charity. The winner is also given the title of the King or the Queen of the Jungle.
The show has been on air since 2002. It is created by London Weekend Television and is aired on ITV.
A CHANGE OF LOCATION
Just like everything else that has been impacted and shaken due to the pandemic, this popular reality TV show is no different. Since COVID19 doesn’t plan on leaving any time soon, a change of location was the only choice.
Instead of the dense and mysterious jungles of Australia, the show, for the first time in history, will be hosted in the ruins of the bewitching and magnificent Gwrych Castle in Abergele, one of North Wales 24 Breathtaking Castles.
From the scorching heat of the Australian summer sun to the brutal winters of Wales, the dynamics of the show have done a full 180. It will definitely be an exciting new change that we all can’t wait to see.
Making a statement about the change of locations the Director of ITV, Richard Cowles said:
“The Australian jungle is such an integral part of the show and it was a big challenge to find a UK location where we could continue to deliver what viewers love about I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! but Gwrych will definitely do that; the Castle sits in an amazing and atmospheric setting on a hillside overlooking the Irish Sea. While there will be plenty of changes required as we move from New South Wales in Australia to North Wales in the UK, we are really excited to see how we can adapt the format and make the Castle our new home.”
A Little about Gwrych Castle
Gwrych Castle, is a Grade I listed country house built in the 19th century, between 1812 and 1822 by Lloyd Hesketh Bamford-Hesketh and is spread across approximately 250 acres of land.
It was built as the first attempt to replicate the European medieval architect and with rumours that the castle is haunted makes this story more interesting; but not only that, it increases the excitement and thrill of the show exponentially.
There are also works being done to the castle to make it safe, these works include:
- the rebuilding of walls and collapsed structures
- fixing any loose masonry
- removing overgrowth
- improving windows and doors
- temporary slate roofing where the slate roofing has not yet been complete
The works taking place has been funded by the trust (utilising upon fundraising initiatives) as well as by ITV. ITV contribution to this work and the money spent is reported to be 'millions of pounds' in order to cater to the needs of being a campsite and somewhat livable and more accessible.
There is Manorafon farm park close to Gwrych castle that has also been booked by the producers and is to be utilised in the show. The farm park is home to Llamas, Meerkats and a reptile hut.
Usually, the show kicks off by mid of November, and this year is no different!
